Is Art Necessary?

So, let's tackle a burning question today: Is art really necessary? Some might argue, "Come on, who needs art when we've got bills to pay?" Well, let's dive into this topic and find out.

Picture this: art has been around since our caveman days. From funky cave paintings to mind-boggling sculptures, it's taken on all sorts of forms. But is it truly essential? The great Francis Schaeffer believed so. He said, "Art is the reflection of God's creativity, and in that sense, it is necessary because it is one of the ways in which we can express our worship of God."

Now, I hear some of you saying, "Hold on a sec! Can't we focus on more practical stuff?" Sure, we need to put food on the table and keep a roof over our heads. No doubt about that. But guess what? Art isn't just some fluffy luxury. It's got benefits beyond what meets the eye. Studies have actually shown that exposure to art can improve our cognitive skills, boost emotional intelligence, and even keep us physically healthy. Who knew staring at a painting could be a workout for the brain?

Oh, and let's not forget about the innovation and creativity art brings to the table. Schaeffer was spot on when he said, "Without art, we would be left with a world that is functional but empty, a world that lacks beauty, meaning, and purpose." Imagine a world without any creative breakthroughs or new ideas. It'd be like a never-ending rerun of a bad sitcom. Yikes!

Now, I get it. Some of you might feel like art is this snobby club that you're not cool enough to join. But hold up! Art isn't just for the elite. It's for everyone, and it comes in all shapes and sizes. We're talking about a rainbow of artistic expression here. And guess what? There are organizations and initiatives out there working hard to make art more accessible and inclusive. So, don't let those snooty art critics scare you off!

To sum it all up, art isn't just a bunch of pretty pictures or fancy tunes. It's a vibrant part of our human experience. It's a way to express our worship, challenge our minds, and connect with our fellow earthlings. If you'd like some of my art in your life, check out my shop!
